The band played music for all stages of our wedding in Lake Como

The band played music for all stages of our wedding in Lake Como (ceremony, aperitif, background music during dinner and for the party) and set the tone perfectly for every moment.

We are based in the UK and planned our dream Como wedding from abroad with no wedding planner. The band was extremely responsive, flexible and helpful throughout the entire planning process. Their set list is extensive and they also learnt some new songs for us for the ceremony stage and of course, the music played was excellent!

We would highly recommend the band to anyone booking music for a wedding or other large event!

We were absolutely thrilled with this band for our wedding!

We were absolutely thrilled with this band for our wedding! From start to finish, they were the perfect example of professionalism—so easy to plan with, learned our favorite songs, were on time which is very important for a wedding, and incredibly helpful with everything. They even gifted us a speaker cord at the end of the evening for free so we could continue to play music when they left (ours was missing)!

They brought such amazing energy to our wedding day, creating the perfect vibe for each part of the celebration.

We honestly could not have asked for a better band! They exceeded all of our expectations and helped make our wedding day absolutely perfect!

Since we are Dutch, we weren’t used to Italian weddings…

The Muffin band is phenomenal. Since we are Dutch, we weren’t used to Italian weddings. We did not know that there is usually music and dancing between the courses of the diner. Although every guest was Dutch and did not know this as well, the Muffin band played everyone from their seats up to the dancefloor! We had the best evening of our lives. Everyone congratulated us with how good the evening was. This is all because the music from the band.
If you want to have a good time, book the Muffin band! They played very good and professional. Beforehand, they were open for all our inputs and the communication went very well.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hiring a Jazz Band in Italy

Planning a wedding abroad often raises practical questions — especially when arranging live music. Below are clear answers to common questions about booking jazz bands in Italy.

How Far in Advance Should I Book a Jazz Band in Italy?

Booking your jazz band 8 to 12 months before your wedding is ideal. The most popular bands in Italy are often booked well in advance, especially between May and October. Early booking gives you more choice and time to coordinate details like the playlist, setup, and any special songs.

Weekend dates, holidays, and well-known locations like Italy tend to fill up quickly. While some last-minute options may be available, planning early helps secure your preferred musicians and ensures everything runs smoothly.

Can I See the Jazz Bands Live Before Booking Them?

Most jazz bands in Italy perform mainly at private events, so public shows are limited. However, you can always ask — some bands occasionally play in jazz clubs, hotels, or festivals, especially outside peak season.

How Long Do Jazz Bands Usually Perform at Weddings?

Typical performances last 2 to 3 hours, usually split into two or three sets with short breaks. Sets are often arranged around key moments like the aperitivo or dinner.

You can tailor the timing to your event — from a short cocktail set to full coverage throughout the reception. Many bands also offer add-ons like extra sets or smaller formations for quieter parts of the day.

What Happens Between the Jazz Band’s Sets and at the End of Their Performance?

During breaks, bands generally play curated background music through their sound system, keeping the atmosphere consistent. Breaks last around 10 to 15 minutes and are often timed with food service or speeches.

After their live set, bands may continue playing background music for a short time or offer to play a playlist you provide. If there’s no DJ, some bands offer to keep music going via their system for a smooth transition.

Can I Choose the Type of Music the Jazz Band Plays During Breaks?

Yes, most jazz bands in Italy allow you to personalize the break-time music. While they usually bring a playlist of chill jazz or instrumental tracks, you can share your own Spotify list or music style preferences in advance.

What Songs Will the Jazz Band Perform?

Repertoires generally include jazz standards, swing, bossa nova, and smooth jazz. You’ll likely hear songs by artists like Sinatra, Fitzgerald, or Ellington, plus jazz-style versions of more modern tracks. Bands adjust the mood depending on the moment — relaxed during dinner, more upbeat for dancing.

Will the Jazz Band Learn the Song I Choose for the First Dance?

Yes, most bands are happy to learn your first dance song if requested in advance. Let them know early — ideally a few weeks before the event — to allow time for arrangement and rehearsal.

Can I Give the Band a List of Songs to Perform at My Wedding?

Definitely. Once you receive the band’s setlist, you can highlight your favorites and point out any songs you’d like to avoid. Special requests beyond the repertoire may be possible with notice, especially for key moments like the first dance.

Can I Share My Musical Preferences with the Jazz Band?

Yes — sharing your preferences helps the band align with your style and avoid genres or artists you don’t want. It’s a helpful part of planning the overall vibe of the event.

What Time Will the Jazz Band Arrive at the Wedding Venue for Setup?

Bands usually arrive 1.5 to 2 hours before performance time to handle setup and soundcheck. This may vary depending on the band size, technical needs, and venue logistics — for example, limited access or setup complexity.

Can the Jazz Band Arrive Earlier Than That?

Yes, if needed. Early arrival is possible if the venue requires it or to ensure all vendors are ready ahead of time. A small fee might apply for extended waiting periods, but most bands are flexible when arrangements are made in advance.

What Time Will the Band Finish Performing?

Most jazz bands in Italy conclude their sets between 10:00 PM and 11:30 PM, depending on your event schedule and venue rules. Their performance usually spans 2 to 3 hours, distributed across the aperitivo, dinner, and early reception. If you’re planning a longer celebration, extended performance options are often available.

Can the Jazz Band Perform Beyond the Scheduled End Time?

Yes, many bands can extend their performance if arranged beforehand. This usually involves an additional fee, based on time or number of extra sets. Keep in mind that some venues in Italy have curfews or sound restrictions, particularly in towns or residential areas. In villas or countryside locations, there may be more flexibility — always confirm with your planner or venue contact.

Can I Use the Band’s PA System After They Finish Playing?

Often, yes. Many jazz bands in Italy allow use of their PA system after their set for playing a playlist or for speeches. Some include this in their package, while others may charge a small fee if supervision is required. Be sure to check compatibility if you’re planning to connect your own device.

Remember that venue regulations on noise and timing still apply. Coordinating with both the band and the venue in advance ensures a smooth handoff.

Do Jazz Bands Need a Stage?

No stage is needed. Jazz bands are used to performing at floor level in a variety of venues in Italy, including gardens, villas, and terraces. This setup often creates a more intimate and relaxed vibe.

If I Provide a Stage, How Much Space Will the Band Need?

Space needs depend on the band’s size. A trio typically requires about 3m x 2m. Larger groups like quartets or quintets may need up to 5m wide. If drums, vocalists, or extra instruments are involved, it’s helpful to allow extra room. Providing these dimensions to the band in advance helps ensure an efficient setup.

Can I or My Guests Perform With the Jazz Band?

Yes — as long as it’s planned ahead. If you or a guest wishes to join for a song, coordinate with the band during planning. Share the song, key, arrangement, and equipment needs (e.g., microphone or instrument input). A brief rehearsal is usually recommended to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Do I Need to Hire a DJ Alongside the Jazz Band?

Hiring a wedding DJ in Italy is optional. Many couples choose to have only a jazz band for an elegant, music-focused celebration. However, if you plan to dance late into the night or want more variety, a DJ can be a great addition.

If I Hire a DJ, Can the Band and DJ Share the Same Equipment?

In many cases, yes. Bands and DJs in Italy often share the same PA system, provided it’s compatible and powerful enough. This saves time and space, but should be discussed in advance so both parties can coordinate technical details.

What Do I Need to Provide for the Band?

Jazz bands in Italy usually bring their own gear — instruments, microphones, and sound system. You’ll need to ensure access to power, especially outdoors, and provide shade or cover to protect them and their equipment. Basic hospitality such as a meal for longer events and a rest area is also appreciated. Let them know in advance about venue access, parking, and setup timing.

Will the Same Musicians I Saw in the Videos Be the Ones Performing at My Wedding?

Not always. Jazz bands often work with a rotating group of trusted musicians. The exact lineup may change based on availability, but quality and consistency are maintained. If you have a specific request for a musician you saw in a video, mention it during booking — the band will do their best to accommodate.

What Do Jazz Band Members Wear at Weddings in Italy?

Jazz musicians in Italy usually dress in formal or semi-formal attire — typically dark suits, dress shirts, and polished shoes. Some bands adopt a vintage-inspired or classic jazz look. If your wedding has a specific dress code or theme, most bands are open to adapting their outfit accordingly.

Will the Band Need Space for Their Vehicles?

Yes. Bands often travel with instruments and sound gear, so convenient parking near the venue is important. If your wedding is in a historic center or restricted zone, check whether a permit or special access is needed. Providing clear parking instructions helps ensure a smooth setup.

Can Jazz Bands Perform Outdoors?

Absolutely. Jazz bands in Italy are experienced in performing outdoors, whether it’s in gardens, courtyards, or terraces. To protect instruments and equipment, they’ll need cover from sun or rain, such as a canopy or tent. Access to a nearby power source is also necessary if amplification is used.

Do I Need a Contract to Hire a Jazz Band for my Wedding?

Yes — a contract is strongly recommended and usually standard practice. It outlines performance details, schedule, payment, cancellation terms, and any special requests. A contract helps both you and the band avoid misunderstandings and ensures everything is clearly agreed upon.

What Is the SIAE and Do I Need to Pay It?

Yes. If your wedding in Italy includes live or recorded music, you’re required to pay the SIAE license fee. The Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori (SIAE) ensures artists receive royalties when their music is played. It’s the responsibility of the event organizer — not the band or DJ — to handle this.

Costs vary based on music type and number of guests. For more details, see this guide: SIAE Licence Fee for Weddings in Italy.

Can the Jazz Band Provide Music for the Ceremony as Well?

Yes. Many jazz bands in Italy can also perform during the ceremony. They adapt their repertoire to suit the occasion, offering instrumental or acoustic arrangements for key moments like the entrance and vows.

If you’re marrying in a church, confirm any music restrictions in advance. For civil or symbolic ceremonies, bands can play prelude music, processional songs, and a celebratory tune at the end.

Do Jazz Bands Bring Their Own Lighting Equipment?

Most jazz bands focus on the music and may not include professional lighting. Some bring basic lights for evening performances, but if you’re aiming for a specific ambiance — such as uplighting or color effects — it’s best to arrange this through your planner, venue, or a lighting provider.

Larger bands or full-service music groups may offer optional lighting packages, so ask during booking if this is important for your event.
